Choosing the Best: How to Buy Acai

Planning to buy acai products?

Be careful! Not all acai products are created equally.

Some of the acai berry pulp, powders and capsules that you find out there are poor quality.

They can be full of fillers and "other ingredients."

Some products don’t even have much acai in them at all!

Fortunately, there's a way to know whether you're getting a high quality product.

Here’s What To Look For In Acai Products:

  • Look for brands that are natural and unrefined.

  • Look for acai products that were processed immediately after the berries were harvested.

  • Avoid brands that are watered down or diluted with too many other juices. Instead, look for brands that are pure and concentrated.

  • Look for acai berry powders that have been freeze dried rather than sprayed dried. Freeze drying preserves more nutrients.

  • Avoid products that contain guarana or yerba mate added. Guarana contains a caffeine-like compound called theobromine while yerba mate contains mateine. Both are stimulants. (I’ll be writing more about stimulants later).

I like the Sambazon brand, especially their very convenient Organic Pure Acai Smoothie Packs. A few of the Sambazon products do contain guarana and/or yerba mate, so be sure to read labels when choosing a product.
