Carob and High Cholesterol Levels

Hi, is carob okay for me as I have a very high cholesterol level?
Thanks,
Susan
Michelle says: Hi Susan,
Sorry to hear that you are experiencing high cholesterol levels. Fortunately, carob should be okay for you. That is, unless your medical doctor has some other reason as to why you should not consume carob.
Carob is not associated with raising cholesterol levels. In fact, according to the research, it has been shown to actually
reduce cholesterol levels.
Here are links to one study you can have a look at:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14569404One word of caution though, if you are on medication for high cholesterol, and if you are planning on adding carob to your regular diet, it's a great idea to have your doctor monitor your cholesterol levels. That way, s/he can determine if any adjustments need to be made to your medication. This is not something that you should monitor on your own and you should not stop your medications abruptly as either scenario could be dangerous.
Hope that helps!
Michelle
