Contrast Shower (The Alternating Hot/Cold Shower)
Taking a contrast shower is a great way to start your day. It will leave you feeling more awake, energized, and refreshed.
This remedy is also great for: - Getting your circulation going
- Normalizing your body
- Boosting your immune system
- Helping to remove toxins and wastes
- Stimulating your digestive system
I use this remedy whenever I feel a cold coming on. Works every time! CAUTION: Contrast showers are not for everyone! Do NOT use this remedy if you have asthma, diabetes, heart disease, heart problems, high blood pressure, weak connective tissues, high cholesterol, intermittent claudication, Raynaud's syndrome, blood clots, vascular insufficiency, phlebitis, deep vein thrombosis, inflammation, difficulty feeling changes in temperature, inflammation, or an autoimmune disease. You should also avoid using this remedy if you have trouble feeling changes in temperature or if you feel weak or ill. If you start to feel lightheaded, dizzy, nauseous, stop the remedy away. Step out of the shower, wrap yourself in a blanket, rest, and keep yourself warm. Not sure if a contrast shower is right for you? Be sure to check with your medical doctor first! What You Will Need: - Shower that has hot and cold water
- Warm Towels or Blankets
Step 1: Turn your shower on to a nice warm temperature. Step into the shower. Adjust the water to as hot as you can take it. Allow your whole body to warm up. Stay under the warm water for about 3 minutes or until your body feels comfortably warm.
Step 2: Turn the shower to cold for about 20 - 30 seconds. Allow the water to hit the back of your neck first.
Step 3: Turn the faucet back to the same hot temperature you started with. Enjoy the warmth for 3 minutes.
Step 4: Repeat cold for another 20 – 30 seconds. Repeat cycle once more, and end with cold water.
Step 6: Step out of the shower and wrap yourself up with a nice warm towel or blanket.
If you don’t have a lot of time, just do one hot and cold cycle. You can do up to 5 cycles if you’ve got more time. Be sure to always end with 20 – 30 seconds of cold. Does the thought of using icy cold water scare you? No problem, use cool water instead. Personally, that’s all I can tolerate in the wintertime. Only go as cold as you're comfortable with. The key to an effective contrast shower is to make sure that the hot phase lasts longer than the cold phase. If the cold phase lasts too long, it will make your body cool down too much. You don't want to shock your system.
