Do you truly want to be well? Then you must develop healthy eating habits.

Natural health is not just about eating the right foods in the right amounts.

The way you eat has an effect on your overall health and on the way you feel.

Believe it or not, there is a right way to eat and a wrong way to eat.

When you develop healthy eating habits, you will benefit in so many ways. There will be a noticeable difference in the way you feel.

You may notice that you have more energy and zest for life. Your sleep may be more sound and refreshing.

And, you may forget the days when you suffered from gas, bloating, or indigestion.

Change isn't easy. I know that from personal experience. I also know that anyone can change when they set their mind to it.

Yes, it can feel overwhelming when there are so many things to change, but you can accomplish a lot when you take things one step at a time.

Never underestimate the power of persistence and willpower.

Read through the list of healthy eating habits below. Pick one or two items from the list that seem the easiest for you. Allow yourself enough time to work those items into your regular routine.

Remember that it takes at least 21 days to form a new habit. Once you have formed those new healthy eating habits, try adding one or two more at a time.

And now for the list of healthy eating habits:

* Always eat breakfast. If you are in the habit of skipping breakfast, you are putting a lot of unnecessary strain on your body. Click here to learn about the importance of breakfast.

* Avoid eating more than 3 meals a day: The six meal plan may be gaining in popularity, but it is anything but healthy. Discover why you should avoid small frequent meals.

* Aim for two meals a day rather than three. This way of eating puts the least amount of strain on your digestive organs. Learn about the benefits of the two meal plan.

* Do not eat your largest meal in the evening. If you are like most people, you are used to sitting down to a large dinner in the evening. However, having your largest meal at the end of the day is actually a reversal of the natural order of things!

Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day. Lunch should be medium sized, and if you choose to eat a third meal, it should be very light. This pattern of eating will help you to maintain a healthy weight.

* Do not eat meals or snacks close to bedtime. When you eat food or snacks late in the evening or right before you go to bed, it forces your stomach to work overtime. Your stomach needs rest, just like the rest of your body. If your stomach doesn’t get the rest it needs, you will not wake up feeling well-rested and refreshed.

The last thing your stomach will want in the morning (after a long night of hard work) is even more food to process! You definitely will not have a healthy appetite for breakfast in the morning.

Try to have your last meal at least 4 to 5 hours before you go to bed. Your food will have a chance to digest while you are still awake and your stomach will get a chance to rest while you sleep.

* Have your meals at least 5 hours apart. This will give your stomach enough time to digest the food and to have a well-deserved rest before getting to work on your next meal.

* Do not eat or snack between meals. Snacking disrupts your digestion and does not give your stomach enough time to rest between meals. It also leads to bloating and indigestion. Your stomach will be much healthier if you allow it enough time to digest one meal fully before you eat anything else.

* Have regular times for eating. Your body does best when it is on a regular schedule. This doesn’t just apply to eating though. It is important to have regular schedules for sleeping, waking up, and exercising too.

* Start your meal with raw foods first. Raw foods are full of enzymes that will help you to digest your food more fully.

* Do not mix fruits and vegetables at the same meal. Mixing fruits and vegetables may cause digestive distress.

* Chew your food into a liquid before swallowing it. Chewing your food to a liquid will help you be able to digest your food much more easily. Your body will also be able to absorb as many nutrients as possibly can from your food.

* Avoid drinking liquids with your meal. Drinking liquids with your meals can slow down the process of digestion. Drink liquids 30 minutes before a meal and at least 2 hours following a meal.

* Try to eat as wide a variety of plant based foods as you can. This will provide you with all the nutrients, protein, carbohydrates, fat, and fiber that your body needs for good health.

I know these healthy eating habits may take some time to get used to. But keep at it. You can do it!
