Fortunately, having a healthy home IS possible. There are many safer alternatives available. Here are some suggestions to help you have a healthier home: - Purchase natural cleaning products instead of toxic cleaning products. Your home will be just as clean, and the air will be so much fresher.
- Make your own cleaning products. You can clean most areas with baking soda or vinegar. Using homemade products can save you lots of money in the long run.
- Use natural health and beauty products (e.g., natural toothpaste, SLS-free shampoos and body washes, etc.
- Keep a few household plants in your home. They help to absorb toxins and freshen the air.
- Consider buying a good quality air filter to help keep the air in your home clean and fresh.
- Use a water filter to capture any pollutants in your water supply.
- Use home friendly paints that are made without Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC).
- Use a dry cleaner that is Perc-Free ("Perc" stands for perchloroethylene).
- Use a vacuum cleaner that has a built in HEPA filter. That will help to remove dust mites and other small particles from your floor.
- Air out your house once in a while so you can let the fresh air in.
- Get organized. Keep what you need, and throw out or recycle what you don't need. Avoid those piles of "stuff" that tend to collect dust and dirt.
