Help For A Fatty Liver

I really like your website! Lots of great info!

Got a question...what's good food/vitamins and minerals for cleaning out fatty liver?

You can bill me if you want... :)

Michelle says: Glad you like the site. Sorry to hear about the fatty liver though. Did your MD say just how fatty it is and what has caused it? If so, start with avoiding those things.

Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to help repair your liver:

Avoid these foods/habits (especially if you want to have long lasting positive results):
-overeating
-refined white-flour products
-processed foods
-junk foods
-white sugar
-fried foods
-saturated fats
-hydrogenated fats
-alcohol, tobacco, caffeine
-chocolate
-meat, fish, fowl
-soft drinks

Foods to Add:
Foods that are high in potassium - bananas, rice, blackstrap molasses, almonds, prunes, raisins, wheat bran, seeds, kelp and dulse.

Other liver friendly foods such as: apples, celery, chicory, asparagus, ginger, and turmeric

Essential fatty acids (such as flaxseed and hemp seed oil) and "good oils" such virgin coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil - use these instead of butter, margarine, and refined cooking oils. It's safe to cook or bake with coconut oil and olive oil. Don't try it with flaxseed oil or hemp seed oil though. They become toxic when you heat them up. You can find these oils in most health foods stores. Some good brands are Flora (flaxseed, udo's oil), Nativa Naturals (coconut), Manitoba Harvest, Hempola (hemp oil). Udo's 3-6-9 oil is a nice blend of oils that is perfectly balanced, so you don't have to worry about rotating oils. Whatever you buy, be sure to follow the directions on the bottle!

Lifestyle Changes:
Wash all your fruits and veggies with a fruit and vegetable wash
- this will help you to avoid insecticides, herbicides, pesticides which are terrible for your liver.

Drink LOTS of water throughout the day - sip it s-l-o-w-l-y, don't gulp it down. See this page to find out how much you should drink according to your body weight...

Lemons are very beneficial to your liver, so try adding freshly squeezed lemon juice to your water. It's quite refreshing. Don't cheat and sweeten it though! :-)

Supplements:
AIM Garden Trio - This product is made up of 3 different whole food products which promote healing. They all help to support and cleanse the liver. It's made up of these products:

BarleyLife - vitamin and mineral rich juice of young barley plants which helps to detoxify and cleanse. It's a natural source of vitamin K which helps prevent further damage to the liver.

Just Carrots - carrot juice concentrate which is beneficial for your liver. It's also a natural source of vitamin A and carotene which helps protect your liver

Redi Beets - beet juice concentrate which helps to cleanse the liver. Also contains vitamins and minerals that promote a healthy liver

FiberBlend - cleansing supplement to help rid your body of accumulated wastes and parasites. It's important to make sure that you are eliminating wastes properly. If you are not eliminating them properly, your body can reabsorb them. That puts more strain on your liver.

Depending on how severe your situation is, you may need to take these supplements on a daily basis for several months.

In addition to the diet and lifestyle changes I mentioned above, the AIM Garden Trio and FiberBlend would be a good place to start. Of course there are other herbs and supplements you can take....

I really like Hubaton's Milk Thistle Liquid. Milk thistle is great because it stimulates the production of new liver cells to replace the damaged ones. This product comes in a base of sea buckthorn berry which helps to reduce inflammation and support the healing process.
