Is It Okay To Mix Oils?
by Sashakam
Is it OK to mix olive oil and
flax seed oil together to take with food or juice? And how much oil to be taken in a day?
Thanks a lot in advance...
Sashakam
Michelle says: Good question! Yes, it's perfectly okay to mix different oils together.
As for how much oil you should take in a day, that really depends on your diet...
Do you eat a lot of whole foods that naturally have a high fat content (e.g., olives, nuts, seeds, avocados, coconuts)?
If your answer is "yes," then you really don't need to add any extra oils to your diet on a daily basis.
Use oils on an as needed basis to enhance the flavor of a dish (e.g., to make a salad dressing), or in a dish that requires oil for baking or cooking.
It really is better to get your oils directly from the whole foods you eat.
If you do not eat a lot of foods with a natural fat content (such as the ones I mentioned above), then you can safely add more oils to your daily diet. Anywhere from 1 - 2 tablespoons per day should be sufficient.
Don't forget to always pick healthy unrefined oils (e.g.,
virgin coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, etc.) over unhealthy and refined oils.
All the best,
Michelle
