Kids And Flax Oil
My kids are 3 and 7. Their family history include asthma and eczema. They do not have asthma. One has eczema. They can not swallow pills yet but I want to give them flax oil, liquid. Is that ok and where can I buy it?
Michelle says: Flax seed oil is a whole food. So yes, it is safe enough to give to children.
In my opinion, liquid is much better than capsules. You get a more flaxseed oil for your money that way. And taking it is pretty simple.
The best way to take flaxseed oil is simply to add it to your food. Blend it in smoothies or applesauce. Or, spread it on toast or over steamed veggies.
For a yummy treat, pour it over popcorn instead of melted butter. Nest, grind up some nutritional yeast in your coffee grinder with a small amount of sea salt. Sprinkle the mixture over popcorn and enjoy. It's sooo good! My three year old nephew can't get enough of it!
There are so many ways to take flax seed oil, so I'm sure you'll have no problem giving it to your kids.
One thing to remember though. Flaxseed oil is not like regular cooking oil. It's not safe to cook with! Heating it up past a certain point damages the oil and makes it toxic.
You should be able to find flax seed oil in your local health food store or Whole Foods Market. Look for it in the refrigerated section.
Hope that helps!
