Sodium Nitrite

Is sodium nitrite in foods unhealthy for me?
Michelle says: Sodium nitrite would definitely be classified as an unhealthy food additive.
You’ll find sodium nitrite in hot dogs, luncheon meats, sausages, cured meats, bacon, pepperoni, and other processed meats. It’s added to meat products because it makes the meat look better so that you will want to buy it.
The problem with sodium nitrite is that it breaks down in your body to form nitrosamines. Nitrosamines are dangerous because they promote the growth and formation of many different kinds of cancers. Pretty scary stuff!
You can avoid having to worry about what’s in your meat by adopting a plant-based whole foods diet of fresh fruit, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
This diet has now been scientifically proven to be the best diet for humans.
