There are different categories of clinical depression ranging from dysthymia (low-grade depression) to major depression.
There is also a form of depression known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). A person with SAD feels depressed during the shorter, darker days of fall and winter. Then when spring comes again, those symptoms disappear.
It is very common for people with feeling of depression to think about death and to have thoughts of suicide.
Note: The nature of depression is unpredictable, and people with severe depression may become suicidal at any time.
