What Should I Eat For Healthy Body Building?

by Jayden
(Wellington, New Zealand)

I am 18 year old and weigh 65 kgs. I am quit a skinny boy....

I don't have abs (I'm focusing more on that now), but my upper body is quite big. All i want to know is, what I should eat?

Is this a good eating plan?

When I wake up I have three weet-bix with skim milk. Then about two hours later, I have a milk shake with skim milk, one egg, and one banana. Then I take two Kre Aklayn creatine pills. Afterward, I have some macaroni cheese from a packet that
I make.

After 30 minutes, I go to the gym and do my workout. For example, on Monday I do 10 minutes of bike riding, triceps I do, 12 reps 3 sets of skull crushers, these things with cables (not sure what they are) and dips.

You get the picture.... I do lots of triceps but don't know the name, ha ha.

Then 30 minutes after my workout, I buy some canned tuna or chicken, with 19 grams of protein in it. Then I take my creatine pill.

I also drink lots of water.

I then wait till I have dinner for my next meal and that is either meat.

I hope you can help me. Thank you,

Jayden

Michelle says: Hi Jayden,

As promised I'm getting back to you to answer your questions about a healthy eating plan.

From what you wrote in your message, it looks like you're eating up to five meals a day.

While you may be doing this in order to keep full and gain weight, it's not a great idea for your stomach.

I've written about why small frequent meals are not a healthy. Read it here: http://www.natural-health-restored.com/small-frequent-meals.html

It's great that you are drinking a lot of water. That is really important since you are eating lots of animal protein.

A lot of people believe that animal protein is superior for building muscle, but the research shows that plant protein is far better.

You get a better quality muscle with plant proteins because you are getting it first hand (directly from the plant) as opposed to second hand (from the animal who built the muscle from eating plants).

Learn more about the plant-based diet on this page: http://www.natural-health-restored.com/plant-based-diet.html

Also, try to read the book The China Study if you can. It explains the benefits of a plant-based diet in even more detail.

Keeping that in mind, here are some things you can add to your diet for more balance:

More fresh raw fruits and veggies. Go for a wide variety.

Raw nuts and seeds such as almonds, pecans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds. These are all high in protein and fats which will help you gain healthy muscle mass and weight.

Be sure to chew them very well and don't eat too much nuts either. It's all about balance.

In addition to that, eat a variety of whole grains such as brown rice, millet, spelt, oats, quinoa, barley, etc. These will provide you with fuel for your workouts and will also give you some good quality protein.

I'm not a fan of supplements for weight gain, but you must decide what's best for your body. I believe that if people follow the 8 laws of health their bodies will develop in a healthy and balanced way.

Hope that helps!

Michelle

How Much Nuts To Eat?
by: Jayden

Thank you so much for your reply. How much nuts would I have to eat each day?

And, how much raw, fresh veggies do I need to eat before and after my workout?

Thanks,

Jayden

You're welcome Jayden!

It's hard to give a specific recommendation as to just how many nuts you should eat each day.

Everyone's system is different and you really have to try to find out what's best for your own body. Start with a small amount - maybe about 2 tablespoons worth and then gradually build your way up to the amount that seems right to you.

I'd say that any amount less than 1/2 cup should be okay - just as long as it's not causing you any indigestion or digestive problems. Good digestion is very important for good health.

As for raw fruits and veggies, try to make at least half of your meal either raw fruits or raw vegetables. Have fruit at one meal (preferably breakfast), and veggies at your next meal(s).

But don't try to mix fruits and veggies at the same meal, because it is much harder on your digestive system. Of course you can eat a higher percentage of fruits and veggies according to your individual need.

Pay attention to your digestion and how your body feels and make adjustments as you go.

If you're not used to eating a lot of raw produce, you may experience a detoxification reaction (where you start to feel slightly ill from the release of toxins). Fruits and veggies are cleansing in nature. Symptoms from detoxification are completely normal and will go away soon enough.

Hope that helps!

Michelle
