Hi Michelle, I am 53 and weigh 497 pounds. I have lost about 60
pounds. I have a trainer that insist that I eat 6 meals a day plus a protein shake. I told him it's too much. Eating 2 meals a day. What should I eat?
Thank you!
Michelle says: Hi Linda, first of all, congratulations on losing 60 lbs so far! That's awesome!
I'm glad that you told your trainer that
6 meals a day is too much. It's no fun feeling full all the time.
It may take some time to get adjusted to having only 2 meals a day, but it will be so much easier on your digestive system....
The key to doing well on the two meal plan is to eat 2 complete meals that are nutritionally balanced with no snacking in between.
I personally favor a whole foods plant based diet with lots of variety in what you eat. A whole foods, plant-based diet is made up of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans/legumes, nuts, and seeds. I've written about the plant-based diet on this page of my website:
http://www.natural-health-restored.com/plant-based-diet.htmlYour basic nutrients are carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Plan your meals so that you will cover all of these bases. A basic way to achieve this is to have one meal that consists of some fruit along with a grain and a protein dish (e.g. nuts or seeds). Then for the second meal you could have some fresh raw vegetables along with another grain and a protein dish (e.g. beans or legumes).
Here's an example of a simple, but balanced first and second meal:First Meal/Breakfast - fresh fruit salad, a bowl of multi-grain cereal with a small handful of chopped raw almonds on top
Second Meal/Lunch - mixed salad with a homemade garlic and lemon juice dressing, brown rice with savory lentil stew
Try to eat enough at each meal so that you are not tempted to snack in between meals. Snacking really throws off your digestive process. It may be hard to know just how much food is enough at first. But over time you'll get to know what's best for your own body.
